SETUP & MAINTENANCE FOR DELICATE FISH & CORAL (PART 2)

There are two types of acclimation methods - the Drip method and good lighting. The lighting helps further adjustements take place in the water. The drip method is however on a higher level. It consists of how to manage inhabitants like shrimp, sea stars, wrasses, and other delicate fish. There are three steps for the Drip method. Remember to be very gentle and to not touch the "fleshy" part of the coral when you're handling it. Also, you need a specific gravity - the gravity being between 1.023-1.025. You must know to never rush the acclimation procedure - the timing should be at least one hour. You must always follow the steps even when you have some specimans dead. You must also keep the lights off for at least four hours if you have a new arrival. Also remember the gravity of 1.023-1.025 - or stress may happen. Certain species - like sponges, clams, scallops, and gorgonias - shouldn't be exposed to the air. Your tank may contain a bully of a fish. The first solution is to get a plastic spaghetti strainer - which is used to contain a tank bully away from your new inhabitants. The second solution is to use a grid, which is used to section off a small part of your aquarium by separating your new tank from the older tank. Once your new tank is comfortable, you can remove the divider. Last but not least - remember - your coral has to adjust to your new aquarium - their new home. So, do not get nervous about the appearance of your tank. Once your coral has gotten used to its new home - it will open. The tank will appear 'full' again and there will be visible flow.
